The Ossining Early Childhood PTA (OEC PTA) supports a developmentally appropriate, screen-wise approach to childhood, one that prioritizes real-world play, social connection, and mental well-being over early smartphone use.

We recognize that smartphones and social media can pose serious risks to young children’s emotional, social, and cognitive development. Our position is rooted in current research and a shared belief that childhood should be protected, not accelerated by technology.

The OEC PTA:

• Encourages delaying smartphones for elementary-aged children
• Supports phone-free classrooms and school policies that minimize digital distraction
• Promotes education for families on digital literacy, healthy tech habits, and online safety
• Fosters community-wide alignment, helping families make informed, united decisions

We believe that childhood should be filled with curiosity, creativity, and connection, not constant connectivity. Together, we’re building a culture in Ossining that values presence over pressure.
